Blizzard’s big talent change is now live on the beta servers and it’s definitely a big change…
There was a beta client patch today and the new talents are in! The beta servers are crashing non stop at the moment, so I’ll do my best to fill everyone in on the nature of the changes from the peeks I’ve been able to get in between disconnects.

There are, as most will know by now, 31 talents per tree and an initial system for selecting a specialization before you spend your first talent point. When you bring up the main talent menu you’re met with this screen:

As you can see here you get a brief description of the spec as well as a list of the ‘bonus’ abilities that you gain automatically upon choosing that spec. You can view the new talent trees before speccing using the button at the bottom of the menu.

The talents themselves don’t really look a lot different than the originally released 51-point trees. They have the same abilities, there is nothing new. They have just been condensed. You are required to activate your primary spec before you can place any talents, and then you need to spec 31 points into the tree that you select before you can get any talents from other trees. Sadly, there really isn’t much in the way of innovation that you can do with these new trees.

Despite the promises from Blizzard these talent trees are pretty much stale versions of what we were already expecting except now we lack any sort of ability to delve into our non-main trees. The “must have” talents are more obvious than ever, as are the low hanging fruit in other trees. I suspect that in their current state these trees will lead to a cookie cutter situation so extreme that there will be one virtually ubiquitous spec for each talent tree.

The Cataclysm Beta has launched and World of Warcraft players everywhere are awaiting the e-mail that will tell them they are one of the select few that get to experience it firsthand. However, not all of us will be so lucky, that’s why we here at Ten Ton Hammer are pleased to bring you a glimpse into the world of Cataclysm with a complete Goblin zone walkthrough beginning with levels 1 through 10.

Well you’ve done it. You’ve made it through the tedious job of picking your class, physical appearance, and name relatively unscathed. You’ve hit the “Enter World” button and you’re ready for your Goblin leveling experience. Once your screen loads you find yourself at the Goblin starting point, more precisely KTC Headquarters in Kezan.

Getting tired of daily work? Well, time to be the hero and save the world!

Now this is what Mass Effect 2 is all about. This excellent add-on has great action, a smattering of memorable moments, and a final sequence that's unlike anything you've seen in the series thus far. Overlord is a short but sweet microcosm of what makes the main game so entertaining, spiced with a neat hovercraft and a few quick puzzles to vary the tempo. The vehicular sections are a missed opportunity, and some of Mass Effect 2's occasional glitches have carried over into the latest content. But these minor gripes barely lessen the dramatic impact of Shepard's latest mission--which also happens to be one of his (or her) best.

The Geth are never not creepy.
Mass Effect 2: Overlord begins with a summons to a newly marked planet on the galactic map, where Cerberus has been conducting some rather questionable--or perhaps honorable, depending on your viewpoint--experiments. The problem? A chilling virtual intelligence has sequestered itself in a fortified research facility, and the project's lone surviving scientist warns you of potentially dangerous consequences if you don't stop this malevolent entity from spreading its influence across the galaxy. And Overlord does a terrific job of impressing upon you the maliciousness of this viral consciousness. The VI's digitized groans that plague you during your adventure are absolutely chilling and only grow more so as you begin to understand its growls. Haunting new music instills a palpable sense of tension, and the dark interior spaces provide a sinister contrast to the shimmering waterfalls and scorching lava rivers on the planet's surface.

Mass Effect 2: Overlord begins with a summons to a newly marked planet on the galactic map, where Cerberus has been conducting some rather questionable–or perhaps honorable, depending on your viewpoint–experiments. The problem? A chilling virtual intelligence has sequestered itself in a fortified research facility, and the project’s lone surviving scientist warns you of potentially dangerous consequences if you don’t stop this malevolent entity from spreading its influence across the galaxy. And Overlord does a terrific job of impressing upon you the maliciousness of this viral consciousness. Haunting new music instills a palpable sense of tension, and the dark interior spaces provide a sinister contrast to the shimmering waterfalls and scorching lava rivers on the planet’s surface.

You roam the surface not on foot but in the Hammerhead vehicle first seen in the free Firewalker add-on. This hovercraft feels appropriately floaty, allowing you to ride large gusts of steam to higher ground and making it a breeze to zoom to your next destination. The Hammerhead is used mainly as a quick mode of transport, and flitting about in it while gawking at the idyllic scenery makes for a nice change of pace. You also take aim at a few sentry guns and engage a large turret in a boss battle of sorts, but the overall lack of vehicular action makes the Hammerhead portions feel mildly unfulfilling. Fortunately, the core on-foot action is some of the best in the series. A few of the larger environments let you take on Geth and other foes from multiple angles, which are a nice change from the straight-on encounters that typify most of Mass Effect 2’s battles. Screen-shaking explosions make one battle particularly fun; a surprise appearance of Geth foes via elevator leads to another enjoyable skirmish. This isn’t Overlord’s only important elevator sequence, however. A ride in a shaky lift is one of the add-on’s most memorable and frightening moments, and you don’t fire a single shot.

The Hammerhead’s onboard guide invites organic riders to enjoy the scenery.
You may notice some of Mass Effect 2’s annoyances creeping into the action here. The cover system can still be a little buggy, causing you to jitter in and out of cover when you just want to pop out to take a shot, and your two AI teammates aren’t always the brightest bulbs. But you’ll probably forget these quirks once you reach the exciting final sequence, which features an art style you haven’t seen in this series and an enjoyable boss fight that surpasses Mass Effect 2’s uninspired final encounter. This impressive sequence leads to a bittersweet ending and features some uncomfortable images that will linger in your mind even after you’ve returned to the Normandy.

Mass Effect 2: Overlord features a nice mix of gameplay elements, punctuating shooting segments with scripted set-piece events and smooth vehicular exploration. You even solve some light puzzles in between exciting encounters and tension-building travel, such as one in which you use a console to move platforms about so you can cross to your destination. It may only last 90 minutes or so, but at $7, this is one downloadable delight Mass Effect 2 fans shouldn’t miss.

OK, enough talking, now go and have fun with Mass Effect 2!

OK, got a nice rest already? Well get ready for the kicking ss game review. Yeah, let's continue our battle with the evil guys in the city!

Fortunately, there are plenty of bad guys to help you vent your frustration. The enemies arrayed against you come in two varieties. Your human enemies, the Cell, are dedicated to fighting you and your agency; your zombielike enemies, the Freaks, viciously slaughter anyone they see. At the outset of the game, you are told about both factions, assigned a few different combat-based objective types, and set loose in the city. Fighting men and monsters can be enjoyable while increasing your available arsenal and melee strength is rewarding. The deadly sticking power of the harpoon gun and the Jedi-like area effect of the UV shotgun are highlights, and the weapons you find in the environment can be just as fun. Bashing enemies with lampposts, bus stations, and park benches is an enjoyable way to flex your power, and throwing vehicles is an evergreen source of amusement.

At the same time, combat in Crackdown 2 is pretty simplistic. In the early going, you can shoot and punch your way through enemies fairly easily. And when the going gets tough, the tough jump around with a rocket launcher and duck behind buildings to regenerate health. Laying waste to lots of enemies is still inherently satisfying, as long as you don't get caught by knockdown attacks or explosions. Both cause you to rag doll and roll around limply for an annoying amount of time, leaving you powerless to defend yourself against repeated attacks. Ultimately, the problem with combat is that it is centered around repetitive objectives. You can only clear out so many Cell strongholds and Freak lairs before they begin to feel the same.

At the same time, combat in Crackdown 2 is pretty simplistic. In the early going, you can shoot and punch your way through enemies fairly easily. Laying waste to lots of enemies is still inherently satisfying, as long as you don’t get caught by knockdown attacks or explosions. Ultimately, the problem with combat is that it is centered around repetitive objectives. You can only clear out so many Cell strongholds and Freak lairs before they begin to feel the same.

You can mix things up by driving around the city in any car you choose or by summoning an agency car at a drop point. The agency cars handle the best and have special abilities, making them the most fun, though other cars have radios installed so you can hear actual music while you drive. The cracked pavement can give you some trouble, but races, stunt rings, and renegade orbs provide good incentive to get behind the wheel. These objectives not only encourage you to broaden your exploration, they take you places that you wouldn’t otherwise travel on foot. Just be ready for some trouble if you drive during the day. Pacific City’s civilians think nothing of gathering en masse and wandering into the street in an effort to become roadkill and especially love to congregate on broad street corners. It’s very difficult not to massacre civilians while driving, and violent police retaliation against you is the annoying result. Of course, police intervention is just another excuse to indulge in some superpowered mayhem, which is one of the chief pleasures the game offers.
The Crackdown 2 campaign can be played cooperatively over Xbox Live, letting up to four players romp around one city at a time. If you join a game, you can keep any orbs you grab or attributes you improve, though only the host keeps campaign-related progress. There are some bonus orbs that can only be collected with at least two players present, and there’s more than enough opportunity for cooperative (or not so cooperative) fun to make teaming up worthwhile. Playing chicken in stolen trucks, punching your buddy off of a rooftop, or having a corpse-throwing contest are just some of the amusing activities you can improvise in this open world. The competitive multiplayer is not nearly as amusing, offering a paltry three modes that cover the basics (shoot each other, shoot the guy carrying the thing) but don’t offer a particularly enjoyable or deep experience.

What Crackdown 2 does offer is a whole bunch of room to have fun. Exploring the vast city, grabbing orbs, pulling off stunts, and flexing your abilities can keep you entertained for hours, and it’s even more enjoyable when you have some friends along to add their own sparks of diversion. The lack of a narrative makes the campaign feel directionless and repetitive, and the different flavors of action are all tainted in one way or another. This game doesn’t significantly build on or vastly improve any of the features of its predecessor, so those with high hopes for a stellar sequel will be disappointed. Still, Crackdown 2’s core action and appeal remain very strong, and there is great potential for cooperative mayhem, making this a fun stop on your summer videogame tour.

Well this is really fun exciting game, but as a result it might spend you a little more time than usual to finish, worth it though, some people just couldn’t get enough of game time, Huh…

Action games are best on the XBox 360, and everyone enjoys the display, so this is actually good new that the CrackDown 2 comes only on XBox 360. OK, let's see how fun this could be!

Pacific City is under siege. Terrorized nightly by a legion of mutated monsters and daily by the rebellious Cell insurgents, this metropolis needs your help. As a superpowered law enforcement agent, you traverse the city with great leaps and subdue your enemies by any means necessary. Your abilities increase as you explore and complete objectives, bringing you new powers, guns, and vehicles. Sound familiar? If you played its predecessor, then you have a good idea of what's in store for you in Crackdown 2. This sequel retains the appeal of Crackdown while adding a few twists that help make things feel different. Yet none of these additions are terribly innovative, and there are plenty of issues with which to contend. The scant plot leaves the campaign devoid of momentum, and as you spend most of the game accomplishing the same handful of repetitive objectives, Crackdown 2's problems become more and more noticeable. Though almost every kind of fun you can have in this game is tainted by flaws, the fun of running amok as a supercop remains remarkably addictive, making Crackdown 2 an entertaining open-world romp.

OK, let’s see how fun this could be!

If you played its predecessor, then you have a good idea of what’s in store for you in Crackdown 2. This sequel retains the appeal of Crackdown while adding a few twists that help make things feel different. Yet none of these additions are terribly innovative, and there are plenty of issues with which to contend. The scant plot leaves the campaign devoid of momentum, and as you spend most of the game accomplishing the same handful of repetitive objectives, Crackdown 2’s problems become more and more noticeable. Though almost every kind of fun you can have in this game is tainted by flaws, the fun of running amok as a supercop remains remarkably addictive, making Crackdown 2 an entertaining open-world romp.

Geographically speaking, this is the same Pacific City that players explored in the first Crackdown. It is still quite large and full of places to go, but time has not been kind to it. Buildings are crumbling, roadways are disrupted, and it generally feels like a more conflict-torn environment. The visuals are improved, and once again the cel-shaded outlines mix well with more realistic textures, creating a distinctive look. Yet Crackdown 2 looks grittier than its predecessor, and while the environments are richer and more complex, the effect isn’t always good. Environmental details don’t stand up well to close inspection, and explosions, of which there are many, don’t look very good at all. Still, it is fun to explore the city and blow stuff up, and the absence of loading times makes doing both easy.

Exploration is one of the most entertaining parts of Crackdown 2, thanks largely to the liberal placements of attribute-boosting orbs throughout the city. Green agility orbs perch on rooftops, encouraging you to climb to new heights, while white hidden orbs reward curious and thorough explorers. Most orbs are stationary, but two new types of orbs flee from you, baiting you to give chase on foot or in a car. Every orb glows brightly, and once you’ve spotted one, it’s very difficult to resist grabbing it. Collecting orbs is immensely satisfying, and there are hundreds of them scattered around the city. Whether you’re leaping impossibly high or zooming around at unsafe speeds, it’s easy to get caught up in an addictive orb-snatching binge.

The unpleasant reality of these binges is that, while leaping high into the air is exhilarating, climbing structures can be aggravating. The visuals can make it tough to tell what parts of a building you can grab on to and what parts you can’t. After a while, you develop a good eye for the environment, but there is still the looming problem of Crackdown 2’s inconsistent ledge detection. You will often jump at the side of a building to grab what you know to be a ledge, only to fall impotently to the ground many stories below. Or you’ll climb a series of windows but inexplicably fail to grab the exact same kind of ledge from which you just jumped up. Sometimes your leaping skills allow you to regain your position easily, but the higher you climb, the more time and effort you stand to lose as a result of this flaw. This makes climbing tall buildings nerve-wracking; not just because it’s tricky, but also because at any moment, you could fall victim to Crackdown 2’s inconsistency and plummet to the earth.

Though it is aggravating, this problem isn’t bad enough to ruin the appeal of exploration and orb collection, and there’s a lot of fun to be had in just roaming around. The other collectibles to be found in Pacific City are audio logs. They come in a number of varieties and shed light on your enemy’s agenda and other threats to public safety. These voiced snippets are the only substantial form of plot development in Crackdown 2, but they are few and far between. There is some mild plot intrigue, but unless you scour the city, the opening and closing cutscenes are pretty much all the plot you’re going to get. Instead, you get a disembodied narrator who accompanies you wherever you go, who is initially helpful and somewhat amusing. But after a while, he starts to repeat himself and say things that aren’t necessarily related to what you are doing. Then he becomes annoying and obtrusive, driving you to turn his voice off. Yet if you do shut him off, you’ll also shut out the audio log voice-overs, which are actually worth a listen. You could manually switch the option every time you come across an audio log, but that’s an inelegant solution to a bothersome issue.

Well, let’s call it a day, have a break and enjoy the game!

Questing for gold is the backbone of the World of Warcraft economy. All the gold out there has to come from somewhere, and with the trifling amounts that drop from mobs most of it comes from quests.

Grinding quests for gold is the lowest level of the gold-making food chain, but you need to start somewhere. The gold you make here is going to be used to fuel your professions and to develop a pool of cash that you can invest in-game for a profit. Making gold from questing is recommended only for players that have no other way of getting gold and who have overhead costs that they need to pay such as gearing their characters, leveling professions, or purchasing epic flying.

Because questing is such an inefficient way to make gold, your primary objective is going to be getting your quests out of the way as quickly as possible and doing quests that give you the best bang for your buck. Here’s a quick list of things to check for:
* 1. How much gold does the quest offer? You’re going to want to find quests that offer at minimum 10 gold, preferably 13 or more.
* 2. Is there an added bonus for quest completion? Some quests offer rewards in addition to gold, some of which are very valuable.
* 3. Is the quest nearby other quests? This is an important one. You’re not going to want to fly all over hell’s half acre for one quest, ideally you can complete multiple quests at the same time and minimize your time spent.

The quests that best fit all three of these criteria tend to be daily quests. Daily quests are repeatable quests that ‘respawn’ every day. These quests are usually high level and offer substantial rewards in addition to being grouped into ‘hubs’. It is frequently the case that you can grab four or more daily quests from the same camp or city and they are designed to be completed in bunches, so they can usually be done very quickly and simultaneously.

There is a 25 quest limit on the number of daily quests you can complete every day. You are free to complete as many as fit your play schedule, but there are more than enough lucrative quests to justify hitting the 25 quest limit each and every day.

The Top 25 Daily Quests:

* 1. Fishing Daily – Rewards random gold amount and items, some of which can be valued over 100g.
* 2. Threat From Above – Defeat Chillmaw and 3 Cultist Bombardiers. Bring friends. Rewards 23g23s and two Champion’s Seals.
* 3. Taking Battle To The Enemy – Kill 15 members of the Cult of the Damned. Rewards 23g23s and a Champion’s Seal.
* 4. Battle Before The Citadel – Kill 3 Boneguard Commanders. Rewards 23g23s and a Champion’s Seal.
* 5. Among the Champions – Earn 4 Marks of the Champion by jousting. Rewards 23g23s and a Champion’s Seal.
* 6. High Crusader Adelard’s Quest – This NPC offers one of four quests each day that requires you to kill a named monster in northern Icecrown. Rewards 13g23s and a Champion’s Seal.
* 20. Intelligence Gathering – Collect 5 Onslaught Intel Documents from members of the onslaught at Onslaught Harbor. Rewards 13g23s.
* 21. From Their Corpses, Rise! Kill 10 members of the onslaught and turn their corpses into ghouls. Rewards 13g23s.
* 22. Drag and Drop – Collect Orbs of Illumination and use them on Dark Subjugators at Aldur’thar. Rewards 13g23s.
* 23. Not a Bug – Collect 5 Dark Matters and summon a Dark Messenger at Aldur’thar. Rewards 13g23s.
* 24. Retest Now – Throw a Writhing Mass into a cauldron at Aldur’thar. Rewards 13g23s.
* 25. King of the Mountain – Use the robot at Ymirheim to climb the mountain. Fastest daily ever. Rewards 13g23s.
* 26. The special option. If you have access to the Jewelcrafting daily do it. This quest is worth over 100g per day for little effort.

Use the map below as a reference for where you can pick these quests up, after that the built in Quest Helper will do the rest!

These quests are concentrated in four hubs over two zones. The Sons of Hodir dailies (11-15) are done at the Sons’ stronghold in the Storm Peaks. Pretty much everything else is done in Icecrown.

By far the most profitable daily quests are the Argent Tournament dailies (2-7). These quests become available once you do a bunch of lucrative preliminary quests at the tournament. The rule of thumb to follow is to do any tournament quests that you see. These quests also yield Champion’s Seals that can be turned in for faction-unique pets that you can re-sell on the neutral Auction House for even more cash.

The rest of the quests are concentrated in various areas around the Icecrown zone there are more quests than these but these were selected for their speed and ease of completion.

I completed a trial run of these quests on a 310% epic flying mount in just over 2 hours. Total cash earned was a bit over 400g including random greens and sellable loot. 200g per hour is not too shabby for just starting out.

The Value of Epic Flying

Sometimes you have to spend money to make money. When you don’t have epic flying (280%+ speed) then you’re looking at one of those times.

Epic flight form is absolutely necessary for gold making via questing and gathering. The majority of your time spent doing these activities is travel time, so it’s simple math: if you can halve your travel time you can double your earnings. That’s saying nothing about the quality of life improvements you’ll receive by being able to zoom around Northrend.

Are Daily Quests Enough For You?

Daily quests are worth about 400g per day depending on your luck. They are also time consuming and require your full attention. 400g is enough to cover pretty much any day-to-day expenses for the average player like repairs, enchants, and gems.

For the would-be trade baron or the big spender that collects mounts and pets or frequently makes new twinked out alts you’re going to have to take it to the next level. Stockpile your gold, get your epic flyer and stay tuned for the next installment where we’ll discuss advanced gold farming tactics.

Unlike other expansions before it, Cataclysm will rend the world we know so well apart, then piece it back together again to create an Azeroth that is largely unrecognizable from the one we hold so dear. To really drive the point home Blizzard has been releasing new information and screenshots almost weekly giving us a taste of the impending changes. As this information has been released it’s easy to see that Cataclysm will truly be an expansion pack unlike any other.

With every expansion pack, players always tend to look back and reminisce about the supposed good old days. Wishing, hoping, and dreaming that things had never changed. I’m as guilty of this as anyone else, dredging up fond memories, revisiting places that once held importance, and lamenting that things will never be quite the same. However the changes made in the past will look like mere child’s play compared to what Cataclysm has in store for us.
Already I find myself mourning the loss of places I hold near and dear to my WoW infused heart. I have made memories all over Azeroth, and as such the list of locations I will miss could go on infinitely. I have managed to cut that list down to a more reasonable level, and as such I present to you the top four places I (and probably many other WoW players), will miss in Cataclysm.
Orgrimmar
Orgrimmar won’t be rent off the face of Azeroth in a fiery explosion, or engulfed in a gaping chasm like many other locations, and in fact will remain mostly intact. However, big changes are coming for the home city of the Orcs. Garrosh Hellscream has taken over as Warchief and under his rule some drastic changes have come to Orgrimmar including new construction that gives the city a much needed visual update.
However under Garrosh more sinister changes will be taking place in the home city of the Orcs. All non-Orc NPCs have been expelled from the center of the city, leaving us to wonder if in the future players of other races will even be admitted entrance.. Further proof of Garrosh’s radical policies can be seen in the reception of the newest members of the Horde; the Goblins. Instead of welcoming them into the city with open arms as Thrall would have done, Garrosh has instead isolated them to the Valley of Spirits which has been reverted into a slum.

So while Orgrimmar will still reign as the capital city of the Orcs, Garrosh’s changes leave the city irrevocably changed. Once a peaceful, and beautiful (by Horde standards anyway) city that welcomed all Horde races, the city is now tarnished almost beyond recognition by Garrosh’s policies. Not to mention the more dire consequences that could result from this change, as it seems these changes spell the end of the alliance of the Horde races, and may result in war. Only time will tell how things pan out for the Horde under Garrosh’s rule, but these changes to Orgrimmar will leave me wishing for the Orgrimmar of old.
The Barrens
Ah the Barrens, home of the infamous Barrens chat, the final resting place of Mankrik’s wife, and the zone whose name is synonymous with annoyance for most players. You may be wondering why this zone even made the list of places we’ll miss in Cataclysm, but take a second to look back, and dredge up those Barrens memories you may have long forgotten and you will have your answer.

The Barrens is the zone that everyone loves to hate, in fact I don’t think I’ve ever met a single person who has said “Gee, I love the Barrens!”. However this zone being the cesspool of irritation that it is, is exactly what makes it great. Looking back most Horde and Alliance players will find they have some story compliments of the Barrens that will likely make those around them groan. And while your experiences in the Barrens may have been less than complimentary, where would we be without them? I know my leveling experience wouldn’t have been near as interesting without getting ganked along the road by the Alliance patrol, or /facepalming in real life thanks to some random comment in General Chat.

The changes to this zone are huge, with the land being literally rent in two to create two new zones, the Alliance takeover of Camp Taurajo, and the lush new growth thanks to the druid Naralex. These changes and more will serve to destroy the enigma that is the Barrens. While most people will say good riddance, I can’t help but be saddened that new players will never again have the Barrens experience.
Southshore
Climate changes resulting from the Cataclysm that will rock the world of Azeroth will cause the city of Southshore to be wiped off the face of the earth by devastating tidal waves and I’m more than a little sorry to see it go. This seemingly unremarkable town nestled in Hillsbrad Foothills is the last Alliance stronghold located in the zone, and is steeped in lore and history, all of which will be lost to the waters.

With the removal of the Alliance presence from the zone, Hillsbrad will be a far less interesting place. No more will random charges by low level Horde being lead into the town to complete Helcular’s Revenge, nor will unsuspecting new Horde to the zone accidentally stumble into the town unawares. The destruction of Southshore may also spell the end of the quaint farms across the lands as Southshore provides their main defense they will most likely be overrun by their enemies. Where the Alliance refugees will go is anyone’s guess.
Shimmering Flats
The Shimmering Flats….will be…a…LAKE?! Nooooooo! While this zone is annoying to get to, it’s probably one of my favorite places in Azeroth (minus the vultures and carcasses of course) and the zone that I will miss the most. I love the easy to complete quests, and the general feel of the zone. Not to mention it has its very own racetrack complete with Goblin and Gnome racers who continue to compete at high speeds despite all the racing wreckage around them. Seriously, who doesn’t like this place? The Shimmering Flats despite it’s desolate state gives some life and humor to the world and Azeroth will be a darker place indeed without it.

What locations will you miss in Cataclysm? Does my list match up with your own? Join us on our forums and share your thoughts!
